UPDATE: Wading River Bank Robber Remains At Large
Robbery reported at Bridgehampton National Bank; white male fled on foot, multiple police units responding to scene.
Police are investigating a robbery reported at Bridgehampton National Bank in Wading River around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
According to Lt. David Lessard, a white male was reported to have entered the bank unarmed, handed the teller a bag, and demanded money. He was reportedly wearing a black hood, and possibly a black jacket. Police described the man as possibly in his 40s and wearing boots and jeans. He fled the scene on foot.
Riverhead Police, Suffolk County Police, Suffolk County Sheriffs, Suffolk County Aviation, and multiple K-9 units responded to the scene.
As of Sunday afternoon, the suspect had not been caught.
The bank is located at the intersection of Route 25A and Wading River-Manor Road.
Matt Anguilo, an employee at The Deli, next door to the bank, said he didn't notice anything suspicious before, or after, the reported robbery. Except the police presence.
Thursday's robbery comes a day after a bank robbery was reported in Setauket, during which a white male - described as 5-feet 9-inches tall and between 20 and 30 years old - entered the branch and showed a teller a note demanding cash, also stating he was armed with a weapon.
An employee who picked up the phone at the bank refused to comment. No injuries were reported in the incident, police said.
