SOUTHAMPTON

Pitch to Sell Stony Brook Southampton Rebuffed

A Southampton man has started a campaign to urge the State University of New York to sell off the Stony Brook Southampton campus in Shinnecock Hills in an effort to save SUNY money and put the land on the Southampton Town tax rolls, but the university says they have no plans to abandon the campus — rather, they are doubling down.

EAST HAMPTON

Town Sued Over Rehab Facility Decision

A new East Hampton substance-abuse facility has filed a lawsuit against the Town of East Hampton, claiming that the town's building inspector flip-flopped on a permitting decision after its competitor in Westhampton Beach complained.

Safe Harbor Retreat, which operates a private pay comprehensive residential facility called The Dunes, the first of its kind on the East Coast, initially received the green-light from town building inspector Thomas Preiato, who said in letters to founder and CEO Joe McKinsey in 2010 and 2011 that no special permit was needed to operate at 26 Bull Run in East Hampton.

But 19 months later, the building inspector changed his opinion "after further review" and subsequently issued a notice of violation.

Pending Insurance, Blues Fest Seems Poised for Return for 2012 Summer

After hearing a plan early last month to revive the Riverhead Blues Festival this summer, a majority of Riverhead Town Board members seem to be on board with granting Vail-Leavitt Music Hall a special events permit for the event despite the fact that it doesn’t have insurance lined up yet. Granting the permit would be conditional upon receiving insurance before the June concert.

Thank you Patch for the update. It is apparent that individuals move to the East End for
the quiet and beauty, however, they pursue their own special agendas to destablize our
quality of life. Live and let live and be respectful to ALL!!!
