Police: More Thefts Reported at Peconic Mini Storage

More valuable items were reported stolen from  in Flanders, just a week after allegedly took place, according to Southampton Town Police reports.

A Riverhead man told police that sometime between September 26 and October 1 someone used a bolt cutter to clip the lock off of his trailer, located at Peconic Mini Storage, and took a $700 chop saw, $350 table saw and $180 drill, according to a police report. Police said the missing tools have the man’s initials labeled on them.

The owner of Sam’s Taxi also told police that sometime between Sept. 17 and Sept. 21, someone broke into his space at Peconic Mini Storage and broke windows of three of the taxis he stores there, police said. Three Garmin GPS's and car batteries were missing and a cable in one of the cars was also broken when the batteries were removed, according to the report.

The two alleged robberies happened around the same time that $2,900 worth of landscaping tools was reported missing from Peconic Mini Storage.

A landscaper from West Babylon discovered that weed whackers, backpack blowers, power rakes and hedge trimmers were missing from his storage unit on Monday, September 19 at around 2:30 p.m, according to a police report. Police said on Sept. 26 that they would step up patrols at the complex and are still investigating that theft.

Police said the only way to enter the storage yard is through a main entrance with a code-activated gate. Peconic Mini Storage employees leave at 5 p.m., but the business can be accessed until 8 p.m. with a code.

The gate was not working for a few days coinciding with when the taxis were damaged, according to police. Police said the three incidents could be related, and are continuing to investigate.
