An article in Friday's New York Times, citing a reported increase in multi-family housing projects, listed Riverhead's Summerwind project along with a handful of others that illustrate Long Island's "grand building plans."

Summerwind, an 8,000 square-foot project on Peconic Avenue, will feature 52 units of workforce housing, with a ground floor of retail downtown. The project broke ground in November and Councilwoman Jodi Giglio, a partner in the project, said she's hoping construction will be done by next fall.

In addition to Summerwind, the Times article mentions Avalon Bay Rockville Centre, Hempstead Village's Metro 303 project, Plaza Landmark in Great Neck, and Glen Isle, an 860-unit project in Glen Cove which received a green light last month.

Interestingly, this week's Long Island Business News features on its front page an article titled, "Frustrated Developers Flee Long Island." Though a subscription is required to read the entire piece, the article states: "The grass really is greener on the other side of the street. That’s what Long Island developers are saying."
