Davis, 71, estimated that she has done over 125,000 perms in her life.

After more than 30 years in business and doing what she estimated was over 125,000 perms, Kay Davis closed her doors on Friday at Hairstyles in Motion by Kay.

From 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., longtime and not-so-longtime customers shuffled in and out of the Pulaski Street salon to say goodbye one last time.

"I'm gonna miss Kay going away from here," said Norma Davies, who said she had been going to Davis for about 10 years. "I don't know where I'm going to go now."

That seemed to be the consensus - none of the customers interviewed (between six and eight total) knew where they were going to go next for their hair.

As for Davis, she said she's applied for jobs with the Riverhead Central School District, working in the bus department and in the cafeteria. She said she loves working with kids. She also plans on staying active with the Polish Town Civic Association.

"I'll see you at the hot spots," she said. "I don't when or where, but I'll be around."
