Police: Riverhead Man High on Laced Weed Attacked, Bit Cop

Police responded to a dispute Saturday morning at the Budget Host Inn in Riverside.

Southampton Police arrested a Riverhead man allegedly high on marijuana laced with embalming fluid on felony assault charges after they said he bit a police officer while resisting arrest.

Police were called to the Budget Host Inn in Riverside on Saturday morning shortly before 11 a.m. in response to two people reportedly involved in a fight in the Budget Host parking lot.

Upon police arrival, they said Julian Wright, 38, and Flanders resident Tracy Mitchell, 37, fit the description.

Police stated that upon investigating the pair, both attacked police officers and as police attempted to arrest both of them, Wright bit a police officer in the hand. The officer was sent to Peconic Bay Medical Center and treated for a cut and swollen hand.

Police reported that an investigation showed that Wright and Mitchell had both been smoking marijuana laced with embalming fluid.

Wright was arrested on charges of second-degree assault, a felony, and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and harassment. Mitchell was arrested on misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest.

Both were transported to police headquarters and held for morning arraignment.
