Police Seeking Vending Machine Bandits

The following information was supplied by the Riverhead and Southampton Town Police Departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• Riverhead Town police are investigating a report of criminal mischief and larceny from vending machines after three suspects allegedly entered the Laundromat in the T.J. Maxx Plaza on March 29 at approximately 5 p.m. and broke into two vending machines. The three allegedly removed an undetermined amount of coins and cash and fled the store with the proceeds, police say. The Riverhead Detective Division is investigating; anyone with information is asked to call 631-727-4500.

• A boater in distress was helped by Riverhead Town police on April 18 at approximately 7:08 p.m. According to a police report, officers responded to calls for help from the Peconic River in the vicinity of Riverside Drive. Upon arrival, police say the found Susan Reeve in a small boat holding what appeared to be a body in the water. Police say she was unable to lift the individual, Riverhead resident Terrie Wood, into the boat. Officers assisted Reeve in pulling Wood from the river; Wood was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

• A Riverhead Town police officer was injured while attempting to help handcuff a prisoner high on PCP on April 17 at 2:35 p.m. The officer sustained scraped knuckles to the right hand and hyper extended his elbow.

• Flanders resident Clyde Blount, 28, was arrested on Saturday, April 21 and charged with alleged aggravated driving while intoxicated after he was in a motor vehicle accident at 10:19 p.m. on Riverside Avenue in Flanders.

• A shopper at Home Depot reported to Riverhead Town Police that, on April 23, at approximately 12:00 p.m., an unknown individual entered his vehicle in the Home Depot parking lot and removed his business credit card. No damage to the vehicle was reported. Meanwhile, a shopper at King Kullen on Old Country Road in Riverhead alleged that on April 21 at approximately 1:51 p.m., an unknown individual stole two license plates from his truck, which was located in the parking lot.

• A Riverhead man reported to police on April 19 at 1:23 p..m. that he was the victim of identity theft after an unknown individual used his debit card at several locations and charged over $3,700.
