Suffolk Theater Recruiting Volunteers

Volunteers can see shows and lend a hand.

The Suffolk Theater has issued a shout out for volunteers.

A post on the Suffolk Theater's Facebook page Monday put out the call for volunteers: "Calling all volunteers! Are you interested in seeing shows, greeting our guests, ushering, coat check?"

The post asked "Suffolk Theater loyalists" to post a message in response on the Facebook page, email boxoffice@suffolktheater.com, or call 631-727-4343 if interested in volunteering.

After months of anticipation, the newly renovated Suffolk Theater opened its doors with a "Back to the Thirties," grand opening gala held earlier in March.

The cocktail party featured Grammy-award winning Vince Giordana and his Nighthawks Orchestra and celebrated the era, with guests donning 1930s garb.

The art deco Suffolk Theater opened in December 1939 and closed its doors in 1987, due to the shifting economy and the birth of the multiplex.

Bob and Dianne Castaldi purchased it in 2005 with the vision of creating a cutting edge performing arts center.

The theater has been  restored and transformed into a flex space, state of the art, theatrical performance venue. Except for the replaced carpet, the interior of the theater remains as it was in 1933. The theater interior flourishing, woodland-motif murals and carvings, mosaic water fountain, woven wall coverings and crane-etched windows are all intact.

A full slate of performances are scheduled for the coming weeks. To check the calendar and purchase tickets, click here.
