Supporters Rally for Controversial 'Chemtrail' Proposal
Legislation sponsored by Legis. Ed Romaine would require impact statement for planes that emit certain chemical discharges; Air Force has called the theory a "hoax."
Over 20 individuals showed up Tuesday afternoon at the Suffolk County Center in Riverside to speak on behalf of legislation proposed by North Fork legislator Ed Romaine that would regulate chemical plane discharge sprayed over Suffolk County.
The discharge from planes is known to many as "chemtrails" - a play on the word "contrails," the trails of condensation left behind plane engines at high altitudes - and are said by the group and many others to have altered the environment, as the chemicals left at high levels darken the Earth and eventually drop down to ground level, polluting the environment and ultimately affecting humans' health. Scientists with NASA have stated publicly that the Earth is indeed getting darker.
Supporters believe that the effort is a geo-engineering attempt by special private interests and government entities to curtail global warming.
The legislation would be a first-of-its-kind in the nation, as the "chemtrails" theory has not garnered support from mainstream scientists. The Air Force has called it a "hoax."
The legislation sponsored by Romaine, R-Center Moriches, is careful to note that, "concerns have been raised that business and government entities may by discharging polluting chemicals ... which may impact weather and other environmental elements."
Supporters of the legislation don't doubt the link between chemical spraying at high altitudes and recent increases in global dimming, decreases in vitamin D production, and other health issues.
"Anybody with a functional set of eyes, who can think critically, and has done a significant review of the process can see this is sound," said Anthony Tolda, a Huntington resident.
Many members of Long Island Skywatch voiced support for the regulation of chemical spraying.
"Nearly everyone you know has a child with a disability," said L.I. Skywatch's Cynthia Pikoulis, noting increased instances of autism as well. "Asthma is an epidemic. Respiratory illness is now the third leading cause of death, and has moved up from seven in recent years. Something is causing this."
While enforcing the legislation - tracing elements in the ground back to one pilot who flew over a specific tract of land - would be tricky, a Romaine aide said the idea would be to get "voluntary compliance," similar to a county mandate which prohibits fertilizing grass in certain months of the year.
Bill Faulk, a Romaine legislative aide, said the county has authority to regulate chemicals coming from planes over Suffolk County airspace since the chemicals may fall onto county land.
According to the text of the legislation, any pilot who plans on discharging barium, sulfur, salt, and aluminum oxide into the air would be required to file an Environmental Impact Statement, and receive approval from the Division of Environmental Quality and Department of Health Services before doing so. The Division of Environmental Quality would be charged with the task of creating the EIS form.
Individuals found in violation of the law would be charged $2,500 for their first violation and $5,000 for each violation thereafter.
After Tuesday's hearing was closed, it will now go to vote in the county's Health and Human Services Committee on Dec. 15. Should the bill make it out of committee, it will be voted on at the Dec. 20 legislature meeting. Should it fail to make it out of committee, it will be stricken along with all bills that have not been acted upon in their respective committees.

'Believe' is inaccurate. Geoengineering proposals, programs, and services are provided by private corporations admittedly and admittedly by governments as well. The purpose or premise is in fact, not in speculation or belief, but is in fact for masking or curtailing as you say, anthropogenic (mad made) climate change.

chemtrails is one term associated with the man made cloud cover we are seeing, but it is not a scientific term, it is more of a slang generic term. The scientific terms you want to be using when discussing this issue Joseph, are Stratospheric Aerosols (American Association for the Advancement of Science), Solar Radiation Management )Royal Society, Bipartisan Policy Center Task Force on Climate Remediation), Persistent Jet Contrails (per NASA)...

The whole truth is this: The auditorium was packed, every seat was taken and those without seats stood in the back of the auditorium. It was between 75 and upwards of 90 people who came to be at the hearing for I.R. 2029 A Local Law to Protect Air Quality. About 20 people gave testimony at the hearing...perhaps this is where you get your figure of 20 from.

This is not said by the so called 'group' as much as it is repeated or cited by the 'group'. Take for instance NASA's information about this...NASA research studies show that increasingly persistent jet contrails may turn into man-made clouds (or white haze), that are “…trapping warmth in the atmosphere and exacerbating global warming…” NASA (2005 Newsletter), goes on to state their studies reveal that “…Any change in global cloud cover may contribute to long-term changes in the Earth’s climate. Contrails, especially persistent contrails, represent a human-caused increase in the Earth’s cloudiness, and are likely to be affecting climate and ultimately our natural resources…”

"Air Force has called the theory a 'hoax.'" THIS IS A BOLD FACE LIE! WHich makes me worry even more about this dire evil plot to poison us and the entire planet! Anyone with half a brain, who spends the time to actually study the skies on a daily basis can plainly see what is happening. I have been witness the constant barrage of spraying in Queens since March 2010, when I first became aware of it. We are being lied to by our own governments. Do a YouTube search on FBI chief Ted Genderson chemtrails. As he says, "This is genocide!! This is poison!! And it MUST BE STOPPED!!" I am beyond livid, as I'm being forced to breathe in all this poison almost every day. And these fines area joke! These pilots and their puppet masters should get the death penalty!!!

Lastly, I want to say, that semantics is important in legislation and in journalism. Your attributing these ideas which are in actuality facts, to "the group" or the supporters is misleading...As said up top, supporters are merely citing scientific, military, and government reports, experiments, patents, and so forth. Also the word believe is misleading--these facts are known and documented and can be accessed by anyone doing their homework and research thoroughly.

Thanks for your notes Siobhan. If you want to provide links to correct my inaccuracies I would be glad to verify and correct anything that's wrong. You were right, I meant to say 20 "spoke in support of" - not just supported - the legislation.
As you know, science can be tricky to cover. One said says one thing is true, another puts out a study that says another thing is true. This article attempts to illustrate the fact that this particular legislation had a lot of support from the people who showed up, and this concept has been met with particular conflict in the scientific field.
However using generic, slang terms in place of scientific terms is quite acceptable and as such "chemtrails" - an abbreviation for chemical trails, and play on "contrials"- is fine. This isn't a scientific journal and part of reporting is making things more easily digestible.

Last comment, I promise...I'd rather this get addressed than go un-noticed.
You mention that the airforce calls chemtrails a hoax. Here is a case where semantics is important. In the email you sent me in response to my first commentary, you mentioned that you viewed this as merely arguing semantics. Yet this is a perfect example as to why it matters. Because 'chemtrail' is not a scientific term, you will most likely not find the military or governments or scientists using it. Therefore when dealing with any of the above, chemtrail naturally would be looked at as a hoax.
What the Air Force will tell you is that they have stated goals to "Own the Weather". In "Weather as a Force Multiplier: Owning the Weather in 2025", the U.S. Air Force who produced this document at the initiative of the DOD, describes weather modification...“Weather-modification is the alteration of weather phenomena…In the broadest sense weather-modification can be divided into two major categories: suppression and intensification of weather patterns.
In extreme cases it might involve the creation of completely new weather patterns, attenuation, or control of severe storms, or even alteration of global climate on a far reaching and/or long lasting scale.
In the mildest and least controversial cases it may consist of inducing or suppressing precipitation, clouds, or fog for short times over a small scale region
The stated purpose in the report is to manipulate weather for military purposes...

Siobhan is essentially promoting a hoax, she does not believe it to be a hoax, because her belief system is that of a person who has been duped by the original hoaxers. The hoax began 15 years ago, and has progressed into a full-blown conspiracy theory and a "cult of belief".

I for one am glad action is being taken. We cannot continue to accept our sky being criss crossed by these disgusting lines. The extra cloud cover created by contrails is changing the climate as well. By simply varying altitute, slightly higher or lower than the moist layer where the trails linger, would go a long way toward clearer skies.

This is not the kind of dialogue that I engage in, but as usual Jay, thanks for your unique commentary on these matters. As far as any kind of hoax, the facts speak for themselves...in light of facts upon facts, i am proud of the stand we are taking here in Suffolk County to ensure the health of our life support systems and the health of human beings. It is a most needed start in raising awareness of the reality of geoengineering and its impacts. Thanks again Jay :) especially for bringing up the subject, the more the more it is discussed the more people will research for themselves..in a way, you are helping to raise awareness of geoengineering. This is good.

The fact is the chemtrail crowd is part of the tin foil hat brigade. Ask one of them why "they" are spraying chemicals on us, you'll get a different answer from everyone you ask: population control, infecting us with something, innoculating us with something, changing the weather etc etc. Legislator Romaine looked as if he were trying to disappear into the woodwork as one fruitcake after another spoke at the hearing on the 11th.
Siobhan is right, this is not a "hoax", this is a bunch of very paranoid people who have been "infected" with the virus of gullibility.

And let's not forget the Helicopter emissions over the Peconic Bays. Air and noise pollution from the helicopter traffic, so a few can save 10 minutes on their ride to east Hampton and west Hampton from NYC.
