Wading River Camp Opens Its Doors To Sandy Victims

Camp DeWolfe has set aside dates for families to come and shower, enjoy warm meals, and sleep, for free.

Another local organization has opened its heart to help those deeply impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

Camp DeWolfe, a Christian camp in Wading River, has galvanized to help those ravaged by the storm.

"The Camp DeWolfe Team in Wading River extends our condolences to those who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy," Program Director Emma Tees said.

“Camp DeWolfe’s mission is to support spiritual formation in the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island and it is our call to love and serve all, especially those in need at difficult times such as following Hurricane Sandy. As a team, we decided as soon as we had power restored, we wanted to make sure we could be a blessing to others and share God’s camp with everyone across Long Island, as we move forward in the next few months," Tees added.

Camp DeWolfe, she said, re-opened on Nov. 8, following the storm. The camp is currently open for shelter for power authority crews.

In addition, the camp has announced a number of dates when residents can come to the camp to sleep in Tempur-pedic beds, shower, and enjoy warm meals -- all free of charge.

"As a non-profit, we will feel the effects of Hurricane Sandy for months to come. But, in this time of need, we are happy to be able to offer support to our community and those less fortunate than us," Tees said.

Dates available for individuals affected by Sandy are

Nov. 26 through 28

Nov. 28 through 30

Dec. 1 through 3
