Twin Forks Bicycles Owner Ready to Ride into Downtown: Nick Attisano, owner of Twin Forks Bicycles, said he's hoping to have his new shop on East Main Street, across from the Suffolk Theatre, open by the end of Fenruary.

Discount Grocery Store Chain Eyes Route 58: Aldi, a German discount grocery store chain, approached the Planning Department on Tuesday about building on Route 58, according to a Riverhead News-Review article.

Blue Duck Bakery Owner: 'We Really Believe in the Downtown Area:' Keith Kouris, owner of the Blue Duck Bakery, said this week that he's looking forward to opening up a third location in downtown Riverhead. He's hoping to be open by mid-June.

Biofuel Plant Upgrade Needs ZBA Approval to Move Forward: A proposal from Metro Biofuels to move a 250,000-gallon fuel tank on its property will require Zoning Board of Appeals approval after the town Planning Department determined that a containment trank was too close to property lines.

Local Pols in Favor of Keeping Towns in Same A.D.After hearing last week that Riverhead is proposed to move into the second Assembly District - and separated from Southold - under a state redistricting plan, local politicians joined Assemblyman Dan Losquadro, R-Shoreham, in opposing the proposal.

Public Workshop for Wading River Study Draws Hundreds: Town hall brought the "preservation versus development" debate to the hamlet of Wading River Saturday morning, and residents responded by showing up in force to give their thoughts on how the town should handle a corridor study for a three-mile stretch on Route 25A.

Pending Insurance, Blues Fest Seems Poised for Return in Summer 2012After hearing plans nearly a month ago for the Blues Festival to return this upcoming summer, a majority of Town Board members expressed support this week to provide a special events permit to the organizer of the festival - the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall - contingent upon receipt of insurance before it begins.

Suffolk Historical Society Looks to Purchase Riverfront Parcels: Riverhead Town is planning on transferring a $300,000 parks grant to the Suffolk County Historical Society so it can purchase three riverfront parcels across from its current location.

Peconic YMCA May Find Home in AquebogueMembers of the Peconic YMCA said this week they've found a willing seller on an 8.8-acre plot of land on Route 25 in Aquebogue, and a piece of land they believe would be a great fit.

Man Reportedly Steals Car, Trades it for Cash: After an East Quogue woman reported that someone took her inoperable 1992 Volvo from her driveway, police tracked the car back to a Riverhead man, who allegedly traded it for $471 cash.

Aeropostale Reports $4,500 in Stolen Clothes in 3 Incidents: Aeropostale employees reported that in one single incident three Hispanic males and one Hispanic female stole over $4,000 in clothes, and a separate incident that resulted in a $740 loss.

Cops: Foursome Took $1,000 in Clothes from True Religion: Police said four black males too $1,000 in clothes from True Religion on Jan. 7.

School News

School Board Adopts Formal Bullying Policy: The Riverhead School Board adopted a formal bullying policy last week, getting into compliance with state legislation requiring school districts to codify a bullying policy at the local level.

Whooping Cough Case Confirmed at Riley Elementary: Superintendent Nancy Carney informed parents that a case of whooping cough was confirmed at Riley Elementary School last week. It was the second reported case in the district this school year.
