I commend you Congressman Bishop for the proposed legislation and I recommend that you continue to…Read More push this legislation again and again. It is a shame that our government continues to handout billions of dollars to companies that are making billions on their own and don't need a public subsidy. Most importantly, drilling for oil instead of investing in new forms of energy is a clear example of the backward thinking of these corporate giants who can't see past tomorrow and are only interested in serving their stockholders and not the national interest. The subsidy does not go towards providing for our national defense. The US military stocks the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to cover our national defense needs. The Republicans in Congress are all owned by the oil companies, That is why you can't get your legislation passed. The Republican Party is the party of the business interest in this country and nothing else. Keep pushing this legislation and others like it.

NCTA, Thanks for your comment and link. II found a couple of actual testimonies online that suggest…Read More 10 - 14 days is leaning on the cautious side. However, it's possible these were just anomalies:
1. "I can usually keep my tree for close to 2 months as long as we keep it watered and we pay $40 - $50. We could get them cheaper but choose to buy from the local boy scout troop in order to support them."
2. "We keep it no later than the end of January."

National Christmas Tree Association recommendations on a rooted conifer being decorated indoors as a…Read More Christmas tree. http://realchristmastrees.org/dnn/AllAboutTrees/CareTips/TreeCare2.aspx
Disrupting the plant's dormancy cycle has varying levels of affect on it's survivability post-transplant, depending on many factors including species, soil type, climate, current local weather, etc.
That your tree clearly came out of dormancy indoors for a long period of time and still survived (so far) the transplant, is somewhat unusual. In many cases, the species and location of the tree would cause the plant to be adversely affected by such a long period of being indoors. We also recommend that any rootball conifer be displayed as a Christmas tree for no longer than 10 - 14 days. And while I can't guarantee you anything concerning Martha Stewart's motivations, I can unequivicolly guarantee you that our motivation for this recommendation is NOT to encourage people to buy a plastic tree-shaped decoration instead.
One other thing, the farm/nursery that dug up and sold your tree will plant a new one to replace it, just like the farm/nursery who cut trees instead of digging them up do.
