Spirit Week Continues, Fall Canning Plans, Senior Stretch Thursday in Riverhead

Students are immersed in Spirit Week and gearing up for homecoming on Saturday in Riverhead.

Here's a look at Riverhead on Thursday:

- Skies will remain partly cloudy with a high expected of 73 degrees.

- There's a Senior Stretch at the Riverhead Free Library at 10:30 a.m.

- The Riverhead town board work session scheduled for 10 a.m. has been cancelled.

- Reserve a spot now for Saturday's Hallockville Museum Farm event, "Pressure Canning Fall Veggies," from 9 a.m. until noon. Mark Vosburgh, Certified Master Food Preserver, returns to Hallockville to instruct students in using a pressure canner to preserve fall vegetables such as beets, carrots and potatoes (depending on seasonal availability). The hands on class has limited space in each session so reserve aspot early by calling 631-298-5292. $30 fee per student includes materials, hands-on instruction and a finished jar to take home.

- Spirit Week continues at Riverhead High School on Thursday with Color Day. Seniors will wear black; juniors will don white; sophomores are slated for blue and freshmen, a tiger print. Friday is Spirit Day, with a pep rally scheduled, all in advance of Homecoming on Saturday.
