Third Time Won't Be The Charm For New York Businesses

Anthony Palumbo, the Republican and Conservative candidate for the 2nd Assembly District, today decried an unresponsive legislature on the heels of a report from the Tax Foundation which ranked New York as having the least friendly business climate in the nation. Yesterday, the group said that New York was at the bottom of its business tax climate ranking because it suffers from “complex, non-neutral taxes with comparatively high rates.”

“As a small business owner, I deal with New York’s culture of red tape and its anti-business climate every day,” said Palumbo. “This is the second year in a row New York has ranked dead last in business climate and our residents, young and old, simply can’t afford to make it a third time. I believe we need a government that is responsive to the needs of the entrepreneurs and job creators, something that continues to be passed over by the Democrats in the Assembly. I’m committed to growing jobs, building our economy and creating a friendly environment here on the East End that puts people of all ages to work.”

According to the Tax Foundation a nonprofit organization that researches federal and state tax policy, "The modern market is characterized by mobile capital and labor, with all types of businesses, small and large, tending to locate where they have the greatest competitive advantage. The evidence shows that states with the best tax systems will be the most competitive in attracting new businesses and most effective at generating economic and employment growth.”

“I’ve already proposed a plan that will bring relief for middle-class families. But more needs to be done to build the economy so that our children have a future in Suffolk County. I believe we need to cut the taxes on existing businesses, continue the progress made last year by Republicans and pass a full repeal of the MTA tax, and permanently repeal energy fees on our families and small business,” Palumbo concluded.

Palumbo has been endorsed by the Long Island Gasoline Retailers Association (LIGRA), an organization made up of small businesses. In the endorsement of Palumbo, LIGRA said: “You have a strong grasp of the challenges that lay ahead, a realistic approach for dealing with those challenges and, most importantly, you know New York’s myriad financial problems cannot be solved on the backs of the small business owner.”
