5 Things To Do Around Riverhead This Weekend

Here's a list of don't miss happenings around town for both Saturday and Sunday.

The fall season means calendars are filled with fun events taking place all around Riverhead. Here's a list of the top five so you'll be sure not to miss a thing.

1) Sheriff's Open House. Take a step into the Suffolk County Correctional Facility at the Sheriff's annual open house on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is free to members of the public.

2) Riverhead Country Fair.  The 37th Annual Riverhead Country Fair  takes place on Sunday from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. Visitors at the fair can enjoy agricultural, homemaking and needlecraft competitions, vegetable decorating contests, folk music and crafts, original artwork, authors, entertainers, local mercants, foods, amusements, pony rides, business expositions and displays, farm animals and traffic pulls, and over 450 vendors. The event is organized by , as well as an army of volunteers.

3) Dedication of New Nature Preserve. A ceremony will be held to officially unveil a new Sound Avenue nature preserve, located just east of the Nassau County 4-H Camp in Riverhead, on Saturday at 10 a.m.

4). Strut Your Pup At the Dog Park. Riverhead MTAS hosts a Dog Costume Parade at The Isaac Dog Park at Enterprise Park at Calverton, on Route 25 in Calverton, on Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for a second dog park to be sited at Stotzky Park. Free to general public. $10 entry fee for participating dog owners.

5) Riverhead Fire Department Open House. The Riverhead Fire Department will host an open house on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Roanoke Avenue firehouse. The event will feature demonstations, activities for children, hamburgers and hot dogs, and fun for all.
