A Glance At Polish Town, U.S.A.

A turn of the century landmark neighborhood in Riverhead.

Many people from all over New York are familiar with Polish Town because of the Polish Fair which is held every August. However every other day this is a small quiet neighborhood, like many others, which deep historical roots in the Town of Riverhead.

Polish Town was settled by Polish Immigrants around 1905. As you look around you can see the area marked by the famous Polish symbol of the Polish eagle, the Polish colors of Red and White, and many homes and business decorated with painted flowers on the shutters and flower boxes.

Pulaski Street runs through the business section of Polish town from east to west. There are several small stores which include a homestyle Polish grocer, deli, pizzeria, and a few restaurants. In the heart of Polish town is St. Isidore's, the oldest Polish church on Long Island, which is currently getting a facelift.  The Polish Hall and the former red and white Agway building - currently being renovated as a micro brewery - are other well known landmarks of Polish Town. Also located on Pulaski Street is The Pulaski Street school. Formerly the High School, it is now home to 5th and 6th graders. The streets in Polish town are all marked with red street signs with white lettering and the Polish eagle.
