A Wellness Orientation for the New Year

"A proper 'wellness' orientation versus a 'disease' orientation in life is paramount to real joy of living expression."

One of my key concerns, being in the healing arts, has to do with our much-understated acknowledgement as to what comprises true and lasting health.  A proper "wellness" orientation versus a "disease" orientation in life is paramount to real joy of living expression.

On television and printed media, we are bombarded with ads demonstrating that which huge pharmaceutical companies deem necessary for our daily sustenance.  So entrenched is their indoctrination at even the most subtle levels that it enters into most of our everyday thoughts and purchase patterns.  The United States, for all its majesty, and its healthcare watchdog agencies, has the unique quality of basically standing idly by as huge lobbies compel us on a daily basis to embrace the common usage of a cacophony of pharmaceutical compounds, usually out of the fear of self-neglect.  The nature of this fear-based orientation explores the invitation of even worse symptoms in the absence of taking these potions or of being out of step with the rest of America's citizenry by withholding our vigorous support of them.  This methodology of indoctrination is flawed on multiple levels, at best.  Other cultures and traditions have a dissenting view that applauds vitality and educates their various populations and citizenry toward that end.

In contrast, other schools of thought here and abroad welcome the longstanding appeal of living life with a true sense of nutritional attunement and hygienic self-awareness.  This understanding of daily monitoring, coupled with current and accurate knowledge of "being your own physician" has its merits in many instances.  There are times when the application of prescription and "over-the-counter" drugs and regular visits to one's physicians group are pertinent.  Be ever mindful, however, that many other time-tested systems incorporating the balance of body/mind/spirit abound. This is a view that I share and is one that can bring home positive results in style … for pennies on the dollar, relatively.

Over time, this writer's column will explore some of the many simple and effective methods leading up to and contributing towards robust, keen health and wellness, without the reliance on synthetic drugs.  I'm describing a level of physical and mental competency that you might find compelling and very attainable with minimal effort, financing and application of force of will.

The old expression, "Treason is merely a matter of dates" has value here.  Systems of thought entrenched at one time in local history can, at other times, lose their appeal.  Some of the "Back to the land for self-preservation" principles still hold sway here and in many parts of the world.  One must simply look and listen with better senses and be receptive when appropriate.

Warm regards,
