Civic Group Hosts Meet the Candidates Night
Candidates will meet the public in Flanders Tuesday night.
The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association will host a "Meet the Candidates" night on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Flanders.
The event, to be held at the David W. Crohan Community Center, will bring together candidates for Southampton Town Supervisor, town council, and Suffolk County Legislature.
Each candidate will have three minutes for an opening statement. The order of opening statements will be selected by lottery with candidates for town supervisor opening first followed by those for town council and county legislature.

Next, there will be two questions posed by the FRNCA board of directors for town supervisor and town council candidates, followed by two questions for county legislative candidates. Each candidate will be asked to answer both of their respective office questions in no more than a total of four minutes. There will be no rebuttals.
In addition, each candidate will be given two minutes for a closing statement

Lastly, the FRNCA moderator will take questions for the candidates from the floor until time runs out.
Here's a look at the questions that will be asked:
Southampton Town Supervisor and council candidate questions
- How will you facilitate the economic revitalization of Riverside and, as part of that effort, provide for the completion of the 14 acre Riverside Park and its Peconic River Walk / Riverside Maritime Trail? Please describe specific staff resources and funding that you will provide to the park creation and ongoing maintenance.
- The New York State legislature recently passed enabling legislation that authorizes the Town of Southampton to designate road improvement districts known as Southampton Substandard Road Zones (S4418-A A6429-A). Upon signature of the governor, the law will permit the town to create special districts and also to effectively waive certain state requirements that are obstacles to accepting existing private roads into the town’s inventory (such as the three rods or 49.5’ ROW rule). One objective of the law is to create safer access to all homes and businesses for residents, visitors and for emergency services particularly during inclement weather events.
Will you support a sustainable safer road program that will bring substandard roads that are presently open to the public slowly and sustainably into the highway system at the lowest possible cost?
Suffolk County Legislator questions
How will you facilitate the overall economic revitalization of Riverside and, as part of that effort, provide support for the completion of the 14 acre Riverside Park and its Peconic River Walk / Riverside Maritime Trail? Please identity potential county funding sources and staff resources that you will seek to access for the park development and related redevelopment infrastruture needs.- What specific steps will you take to address traffic congestion and pedestrian safety issues at the county’s State Route 4/Peconic Avenue traffic circle?
