‘Concerts For A Cure’ Rocks Vail-Leavitt Music Hall

Community members help one woman achieve dream of raising $1 million for cancer research.

‘Concerts for a Cure’ kicked off its first in a series of summer concerts last night at the Vail-Leavitt Music Hall in support of cancer research. The historic music hall roared to life as blues/rock trio Lo Fi 3, Rock ‘n Roll/blues band Scott E/Soundsource, blues band Boss 54, and rock band Deep Rising performed live music for the crowd.

Guests enjoyed several hours of entertainment by the bands, which included original and cover songs, as well as a 50/50 raffle and silent auction. The silent auction featured several unique items including a handcrafted Egyptian beaded necklace made from 2,000 year old beads.

Lisa Dee founded ‘Concerts for a Cure’ in honor of her son Vincent, who lost his battle with Leukemia one month shy of his seventh birthday. During his four-year battle, Vincent endured bone marrow transplants, stem cell transplants, chemotherapy, and other therapies without success.

“I dreamed of a cure…There’s got to be a way to find a cure,” said Dee.

‘Concert for a Cure’s’ mission is to raise $1 million dollars for cancer research and to support cancer related organizations, such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions like Vincent, who wished to go to Disney world. The Make-A-Wish Foundation set up a table at the concert to share information with attendees.
