Westhampton Beach Considers Opening Beaches to the General Public

Not a Westhampton Beach resident, but you'd like to enjoy a day in the sun at one of the village's beaches? A new plan may allow you gain access to either Rogers or Lashley beach. 

On Wednesday night, the village said it is considering allowing non-residents to pay a fee to day-trip to its beaches in an effort to generate additional revenue for the village.

SOUTHAMPTON

Jeep Crashes Into Norahs Clothing Store
A black Jeep Wrangler Sahara drove off Jobs Lane in Southampton Village, over the sidewalk, flower boxes and a municipal garage can and into a store front Wednesday evening.

The accident occurred around 5:30; the store was closed and no one was injured -- except for mannequins in the shop window.

East Hampton Native's Handbag Design Nominated for National Award

Monica Valentine Frisbie, an East Hampton native, needs the community's help to win the Audience Fan Favorite Award at the 2013 Independent Handbag Designer Awards.

Frisbie, who lives in Lima, Peru, with her husband, Matt, and their daughter, Tillie, said the awards are like the Oscars of handbags. Nominated in the Most Socially Responsible Category, it was selected from over 1,000 applicants worldwide.

Town Installs Panic Buttons For Safety

Southold town residents are one step closer to safety in the case of an emergency.

Panic button for town facilities have been installed in 50 computer stations around town, Phillip Beltz, Southold's special projects coordinator, said on Tuesday.

The "tiny green buttons" have been placed throughout town facilities; individuals or employees who find themselves in a crisis situation find their calls dispatched immediately to police headquarters.

RIVERHEAD

Downtown Business Owners Blast Zip Line Plan
Downtown Riverhead business owners railed against a proposal for a new zip line that would be located by the Peconic Riverfront -- leaving the plan possibly dead in the water.

John Finnegan of Urban Jungle Zip Lines pitched his proposal to the Riverhead town board Thursday.

Councilman George Gabrielsen prefaced the discussion by saying he wanted to set the record straight.
