Farmers Come Together to Celebrate 'Grown on Long Island'

The largest farmers market in Suffolk County is coming next week.

Farmers from across the East End and Suffolk County will celebrate "Grown on Long Island Day" next Friday.

The event place takes on August 9 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and farmers county-wide will convene at the Suffolk County Farm in Yaphank.

This year's event, the third annual, will feature a variety of farmers and producers selling locally grown products, along with live farm animals, cooking demonstrations with local chefs, wagon rides, farm crafts, a scavenger hunt, a food drive for Long Island Harvest, a century old working farm and games for the children. Free admission.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone was joined at last year's event by farmers, the Long Island Farm Bureau, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Long Island Wine Council, the Peconic Land Trust, Island Harvest, J Kings. Food Service, Harbor View Foods, Inc, and Farm Credit East.
