Finding Beauty in the Winter Landscape

Embrace slower winter days and let them inspire you.

During the heart of the winter landscape, with its dormant tendencies, vibrancy is often within grasp.  The vibrancy of which I speak is to be found inwardly as well as in our physical surroundings.  To find the joy and wholeness in every moment, irrespective of the apparently muted environment, is both an art and a meditation.  Please recognize that in all things pertaining to the natural world, cycles abound.  It is our task to emerge from each moment enhanced with the knowledge that we are all part of a vast cosmos that is our home.

In the work I do as a health and longevity counselor, my clientele begin to comment with increasing numbers at this time of year as to the multitude of stresses this season brings.  With an adjustment in attitude, one may live with potency even in the wake of the snows, cold, short days/reduced sunlight, muted color palate and the like.

Look at it as a puzzle to be unlocked.  All of the ingredients of a life filled with good cheer surround us, albeit subtly masked during the cooler months.  Keen senses are the order of the day when stalking the pearls of the healthy and bountiful life that is our birthright.  Specks of color and contrast run deep this time of year and the same is true of the nutritional, emotional and spiritual spectrum.  Once you get into the groove of spotting the veiled opportunities of the season’s mysteries, this gateway opens more broadly with each passing year.

To those among us that adore the winter in this part of the world, I apologize for any implied diminishment of mid-winter Long Island, NY.  This segment is dedicated to those individuals struggling to find a balance with the rigors of this time.  I encourage people to converse with folks who have insight into the joys of winter in these parts for tips as to appreciating our current surroundings with verve.  Use the best of what you glean and apply it as best suits you and your family.

Many see this time as an opportunity for reflection and for tackling projects that would otherwise constitute the consumption of precious “daylight burning”, as during the spring and summer months.  The phrase “winter projects” is aptly coined and can be a potent tool in the evolution of one’s spirit and sacred spaces.  Please consider this wise use of your time and energy.
