From Stationery Shop Owner to Psychic: Jim Fargiano's Spiritual Journey

The psychic and medium is on the marquee at the Suffolk Theater Wednesday.

East Quogue resident Jim Fargiano was just a regular small business owner 20 years ago — he was the proprietor of Royal Stationers on Main Street — when the spirit moved him to change careers.

Literally.

Fargiano, a psychic and medium who is slated to appear at the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead Wednesday night at 8 p.m., said his entry into the spiritual world was "unexpected.

"I was going through what was the most difficult time in my life and my friend gave me a book to read," he said.

His friend told him to skip over the meditation section and focus on the relaxation techniques.

"Long story cut short, I read the book, 'Creative Visualizations,' from the beginning. Images appeared that reminded me of things that I saw when I was falling asleep as a child. Two days later, I tried it again and this time I 'felt' a stream of white light enter into me. Immediately, I saw images of Jesus, the Blessed Mother, Moses, Buddha, Abraham, Mohammed and other highly devout religious figures," Fargiano said.

"A few weeks later I was meditating and had my first 'conversation' with my paternal grandfather, who had died two-plus years before I was born. All of the messages in what he said were intended for me to give to my own dad. My contact with the other side grew from there very rapidly and without too much effort on my part."

Today, he's combined his business acumen with his strong sense of the spiritual and religious and was "pushed" to kickstart a website that will offer Young Living Oil, other religious and spiritual items, and a natural healing product line.

"I guess Spirit pulled me away from what I loved to do and now they are expanding things for me to give it back," he said. "Time is a problem because they seem to forget on the other side that I am hampered and confined to a physical clock and time frame."

The popular medium, who has a full calendar of engagements at various venues, is also a published author, whose book, "The Spoken Words of Spirit," was created through many of the messages he channeled over the earlier years, he said.

"It was designed to help a wide variety of people," he said. "I was recently told by someone that it helped her family member realize that you can be on a spiritual path and have it be in alliance with mainstream church philosophies, too."

Being a psychic and medium has left Fargiano open to skepticism from some, he said — and it is something he said he struggles with.

"I believe everyone is entitled to think what they want. However, when they are so closed-minded that they will not consider that this world might offer them something outside the parameters they have boxed their minds into, it is near impossible to 'prove' anything to them," he said.

It is generally those who consider themselves "devoutly religious" that have the toughest time accepting what Fargiano does, he said.

"While keeping in mind that I was one of these skeptical people myself, I ask them if they believe in the Bible. Most of them will rush the answer 'yes' before my question is resting. That is when I ask them if they believe everything in it. Of course, their answer is in the affirmative. When I ask them if they believe in the prophecies and they are again emphatic with their belief, my question to them is, 'Where did the information come from if it was a prophecy?'"

Once the look of confusion on their faces has faded, Fargiano said, "I explain to them that they were messages channeled from the other side. While those messages made it into the Bible, mine are given to individuals. It's fun watching my antagonists walk away in a huff knowing they now have no argument."

For all the naysayers, Fargiano said there are scores who come to him seeking both a peek into the future, and a long-yearned-for reunion with someone they have lost.

"Most people are looking for me to connect with a passed over loved one, but the gift I have been given allows me to do both," Fargiano said.

His new calling is meaningful, Fargiano said. "It's fulfilling for me mostly because I am able to bring a lot of closure to many people who struggle emotionally with the loss of loved ones, most notably the people whose family or other significant ones perished without warning."

Sometimes, he said, the results are life-altering: "I've seen transformations in my clients' demeanor that was previously unavailable to them. Years ago, I had a young woman who told me I did more good in five minutes than five years of therapy had gotten her."

Fargiano has helped suicidal souls move on to live productive lives, he said. "I have also been tapped by the other side to be able to do a lot of healing work, and when I see someone with cancer have a spontaneous release and 'cure,' it still amazes me."

For his clients, Fargiano has a life message: "Love yourself because if you cannot do that, it is much harder to love everyone else in an open and free way.  Live without ego because that will only fan the attitude of arrogance, which frequently causes greed, thereby creating the path for deceptive behavior. Live in truth so that you never have to worry that your words will come back to haunt you, no pun intended, at a later time. If you live in an attitude of gratitude and abide by the Law of Attraction, many good things will come your way."
