Good News: Soldier Comes Home to Hero's Welcome

A Hero's Welcome Home for Stony Brook Navy Reservist

U.S. Navy Lieutenant David Fink received a hero's welcome home Thursday morning as he returned from a nearly six-month tour in Afghanistan. Friends, family, Hometown Heroes and Patriot Guard Riders saluted Fink, a Stony Brook resident, as he arrived at Islip MacArthur Airport on a 10:45 a.m. flight. He carried his five-month old son, reunited with his wife, Jackie, and older son.

Rotary Donates to Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck

The Westhampton Rotary Club recently donated $5,000 to the Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck scholarship fund.

Rotary President Chad Vanderslice presented the check to Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck Board Members Laura Dunathan and Newt Homan at a meeting at at Jonesey’s Restaurant in Westhampton Beach.

Commack Graduates Earn $27.5 Million in Scholarships

The Class of 2013 was one of the Commack School District's most academically successful classes in school history. The 628 seniors, who graduated last week, earned $27.5 million in scholarship monies.

In addition, 99.2 percent of the grade earned Regents diplomas and 82.3 percent of them earned advanced regents diplomas - the most in Commack's history, according to the school.

Angela's House to Celebrate Third Home Opening

Angela’s House, a Hauppauge-based nonprofit, that assists families caring for children with special health-care needs, will celebrate the opening of its third house with a fishing fundraiser.Angela’s House III will open at the end of the summer and will have the ability to care for children that require ventilators to support them. The creation of the home is eight years in the making.
