Grab N' Go Kids Planner: Riverhead Idols Take the Stage

Welcome to the Grab & Go Kids planner. We want to highlight events posted on our calendar in and around town focusing on kid-friendly activities and new places for you to try out with children.

Each week we will give you the best family activities or events for the week.

• When/where: . Friday, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
• Why go: A great chance for your children to socialize and get some exercise too!  Teen Night is an open gym program sponsored by the Riverhead Youth Bureau.  Each child must be signed in and out by a parent.
• Pricing: Free!
• Ages:  Open to students in grades 5 and 6 only.

• When/where: . Friday, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
• Why go: Enjoy some healthy competition! This basketball shooting competition will include 30 sec shooting, foul shooting,3pt shooting, and a combination of the above. Boys and girls will have separate competitions in three age groups. Contact the department for more information.
• Pricing: $10 residents or $15 for non-residents.
• Ages: Boys and girls ages 7-15.

• Where/when: . Saturday, 11-11:45 a.m.
• Why go: Come and enjoy a family friendly comedy juggling show. Props include balls, clubs, rings, tennis racquet's, and balance board. No registration required.
• Pricing: Free!
• Ages: Ages 4-12.

• Where/when: . Saturday, 12 p.m.
• Why go: Riverhead Recreation is offering its first annual Wii Boxing tournament. "Fighters" will compete in a one day, fight to the finish. Wii Boxing promotes health and fitness, while also allowing you to release some of those daily frustrations that build up. Prizes and refreshments will be provided.
• Pricing: $20 per person or $35 per team.
• Ages: 14+

• Where/when: . Saturday, 7:00 p.m.
• Why go:  Come down to the 8th annual Riverhead Idol Competition! See a great show and show your support to our local teens. The theme will be "The 80s". Tickets can be purchased at , at or at the .
• Pricing: $5 in advance or $7 at the door.
• Ages: all ages

• Where/when:   Sunday, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
• Why go: Paint like Van Gough!  Make your own masterpiece at Michaels in Riverhead, with the purchase of a Fine Arts Canvas.
• Pricing: Free with required Fine Arts Canvas purchase.
• Ages: 12+

• Where/when: . Tuesday, 1:00-2:00 p.m.
• Why go: Get creative with your little one! Self expression through age appropriate art activities will inspire your child's inner artist! Exposure to different ways of painting, collage, sculpture and printing among other activities is combined with exploring colors and textures.  You can drop in or sign up for multiple classes and save.
• Pricing: $15 drop in
• Ages: 2-5 years old.
