Group Receives $125K Grant To Keep Kids Drug, Alcohol Free

A program that helps kids just say "no" to drugs just got a generous grant to help the group keep moving forward with prevention efforts.

The Riverhead Community Awareness Program, Inc. was recently awarded a $125,000 grant from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy on behalf of the Riverhead Community Coalition for Safe and Drug-Free Youth.

According to CAP Executive Felicia Scocozza, the funds will be used to further underage drinking and drug prevention efforts in the Riverhead Central School District, which includes areas in Riverhead, as well as in communities in Flanders, Northampton and Riverside, in the Town of Southampton.

"This is great news for the Riverhead community," Scocozza said. "It means that the federal government recognizes the strength of our coalition’s underage drinking and drug prevention efforts, and has committed the funding for us to expand these efforts through research-based environmental strategies. We are proud of our coalition partners who worked together to achieve this award."

CAP presents a series of events and efforts all year to help provide kids with positive alternatives to drinking and drug use, including the annual "Say No To Drugs" march.
