Homeless for The Holidays: How Long Island's Down and Out Find Safe Haven

As the county's homeless numbers grow, outreach organizations are stretched to feed, shelter those who need them.

Luckily, many have sought winter refuge with local nonprofit Maureen's Haven, which in addition to giving them overnight relief at places of worship across the East End, also tries to offer "guests" some semblance of Christmas.

For this longform report, Patch sat down with the organization and several of the region's homeless to talk about challenges they all face amidst local tensions over the jump in Suffolk County's homelessness.
