Ice Rink Open In Riverhead

Bring your own skates and have some fun.

The Stotzky Park Ice Rink is open for skaters, according to Tom Filgate of the Riverhead recreation program planner.

The rink will be open on Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m., Friday from 3 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m.

Further openings will be announced as soon as possible, Filgate said.

Last January marked the first time that skaters were able to use the rink since it was installed in January, 2012; temperatures until then had never dropped low enough for the ice to freeze, said Filgate.

The rink, made with a liner, was put up again last year for the 2013 season and opened again this week.  "Luckily we got enough cold weather for it to freeze," he said.

The rink, located in Stotzky Park by the skate park, is free; no rental skates are available, however, so those wishing to skate should bring their own. No attendants will be on site.
