Icy Temperatures, Snow Headed Back to Region

The entire Long Island and New York City region is set for another round of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Frigid temperatures are on tap through Friday, with sub-zero wind chills and highs on Friday forecast between 15 and 20 degrees across the region, according to the NWS. Wind chills are expected to make it seem as though it's a frosty five to 10 degrees above zero.

A hazardous weather outlook, including a blast of snow, remains in effect, with the possibility of a significant accumulating snowfall of at least eight inches across the region, possibly accompanied by a wintry mix of sleet and rain along the coast Sunday night through Monday night, the NWS said.

The new blast of snow could be caused by a wave of low pressure moving northeast and passing south of the area as another arctic high pressure system builds east across New England, the NWS said.

With a new moon predicted for Saturday and northeast winds developing Sunday night through Monday, minor tidal flooding is possible around high tides.
