Kent Presents 'Happy Neuter Year' in January

The cost to neuter a male dog or cat is only $20 in January.

Kent Animal Shelter is asking pet owners to help making it a "Happy Neuter Year” in January.

Male dogs or cats can be neutered for $20 during the campaign.

“Neutering male pets is a simple surgery that reduces unwanted behaviors, like roaming, fighting, and urine marking territories,” Pamela Green, Executive Director of Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton, said. “It also guarantees your dog or cat never fathers a litter of puppies or kittens.”

Neutering a male dog or cat will also reduce the homeless pet population, Green said; spaying and neutering is one of the most effective ways to reduce the homeless pet population and is safe for puppies and kittens as young as eight to 10 weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association, she added.

The campaign is sponsored by PetSmart Charities®, and the special $20 rate is less than Kent’s normal low-cost price and is available to all residents of Long Island.
