Kick Off the Holiday Season With Your Pets
From finding your tree to visiting Santa, the holidays provide lots of opportunities to play with your pet.
Is that jingle bells I hear? I think so, meaning the holiday season is upon us. It's time for you and your pet to kick off the holiday season right.
There are plenty of ways to involve your pet in the holiday festivities.
One of the first major events of the holiday season is picking out your Christmas tree. In the Riverhead area, there are several great spots where you can pick out your tree with your pet. Lewin Farms' Christmas Tree selection is on Fresh Pond Avenue in Calverton, with over 100 acres of Christmas trees to choose from. Best of all, your pet is more than welcome to sniff around those 100 acres with you, picking out the perfect holiday tree.

There are also a couple of farms further east on the North Fork that welcomes your pet. Check out Santa's Christmas Tree Farm in Cutchogue. At Santa's not only can you take your pet through the aisles of trees, but you can also get lost in the farm's huge Christmas tree store. If you drive a little further, to Southold, you can find Dart's Christmas Tree Farm. Dart's is a three generation family tree farm that offers the entire Christmas Tree Farm experience. You and your pet can pick out your tree, take a hayride and listen to live music all in one outing.
Once you have your tree it's time to decorate your house, and there are plenty of ways to include your pet in the decorations. You can find stockings for your pet at a variety of stores in the Riverhead area – Petco, Home Depot, Target and more. Or, if you want to take things a step further, get your pet their own monogrammed stocking. Websites like jcpenny.com or personalizationmall.com allow you to order a personalized stocking, shipped directly to your home.

Personalized ornaments for your pet are always a hit too. Buy an ornament just for your pet and personalize it yourself. Or go back to Santa's Christmas Tree Farm and they'll do it for you.
Finally, don't forget that your pet might have a wish list to share with Santa. Next weekend Petco is giving your pet their chance to do just last. For $8.95, your dog, cat, bunny, guinea pig or maybe even donkey can take a seat with Santa and share all of their wishes. While they share, you can get their picture taken and put into a commemorative holiday card and envelope. The Santa session will be held on Saturday from 1-4. See you there!
