Knots of Love: A Knitting Circle to Help Others

Lessons will be given for first timers.

Back in the days when women gathered for quilting bees, they came together with colored thread and yarn to share stories and friendship, weaving together the fabric of their lives.

In Riverhead, a new group, Knots of Love Ministry, has been started to bring women together to crochet and knit homemade gifts "to bless others," said Melissa Spero Messina, who started the new group with her sister-in-law, Christine Spero.

The women will hold biweekly meetings at their church, Church of the Harvest in Riverhead. Meeting will begin on Monday from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; all are welcome.

Lessons will be given, with crochet instructions, for those who want to learn.

The group's first project will be to make scarves for the church's Christmas morning outreach breakfast.

Donations of yarn and homemade scarves are appreciated, Messina said.
