Melanie and Yoo Hoo: Available for Adoption at Kent Animal Shelter

Melanie and Yoo Hoo are two of many pets seeking a new home.

Kent Animal Shelter in Calverton currently houses over 57 cats and 16 dogs - all available for adoption.

This week's Four Legged and Furry focuses on two of these adoptees - Melanie and Yoo Hoo.

Yoo Hoo is a domestic short hair cat looking for a loving home. His former owner abandoned Yoo Hoo at Kent, leaving him in the Kent driveway in his cage with a bag of food by his side.  While Yoo Hoo was very confused by this turn of events, he quickly bonded with the Kent staff and volunteers as well as his housemates at the cattery. However, Yoo Hoo would really like a home to call his own. At only 3 years old, Yoo Hoo has many years in front of him.  He is up to date on all of his shots and has been neutered. The adoption fee for Yoo Hoo is $160.

Melanie is a cocker spaniel rescued from a Midwestern puppy mill through Kent's partnership with Best Friends Animal Sanctuary.  Melanie came to Kent in November, but to everyone's surprise, she was pregnant with 6 puppies. Those puppies have now been delivered and adopted. Now it's Melanie's turn to finally get a home where she can rest. Melanie is 5 years old, up to date on all shots, spayed and micro-chipped. Because Melanie spent her first 5 years in the cages at the puppy mill, she does need to work on socialization.  She is not aggressive, but she does need some time to warm up to some people. However, this cute cocker is great with other dogs and cats and really just wants a home to call her own. As a purebred, Melanie's adoption fee is $300.

If you are interested in adopting Yoo Hoo, Melanie, or any of the other animals at the Kent Animal Shelter, go to the shelter for a visit. If you are serious about adoption, make sure that all family members (including any other pets) come by for the visit. Kent wants to make sure that everyone gets along before a pet goes to a new home.

Once you've found the newest member of your family, Kent requires that an adoption application be filled. All references and any previous veterinary records will be checked.

Don't miss this opportunity to make a difference in an animal's life.
