Take the kids to the Riverhead Fire Department or the Suffolk County Sheriff's Family Day.

Two open houses will be held on Sunday that will give the public a chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at how law enforcement and life-saving operations work.

The Riverhead Fire Department will host an open house on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Roanoke Avenue firehouse. The event will feature demonstations, activities for children, hamburgers and hot dogs, and fun for all.

Also on Sunday, Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco host the annual Sheriff’s Open House and Family Day featuring K-9 demonstrations, jail tours for ages 12 and up, law enforcement presentations, Amber Alert Child ID Cards, Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team demonstrations, a blood drive, balloon art for the kids, Sheriff’s Senior Medical ID Cards and more.

The event will take place on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Suffolk County Correctional Facility on Route 24/Nugent Drive in Riverside.
