Photo Gallery: Riverhead Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival

Add your photos of the popular Riverhead event here.

One might easily have mistaken downtown Riverhead on Sunday for a scene straight from Paris or Italy as artists gathered for a popular street painting festival.

Back for the 16th year, the organized by East End Arts, featured street painting, music, drumming, dance, theater, face painting, vendors and fun activities for children.

Kathleen Daughty traveled from Hauppauge to recreate the painting "American Gothic," by artist Grant Wood. Last year, Daughty's recreation of a Van Gogh classic self-portrait was chosen to adorn a promotional T-shirt for the event this year. Daughty said she enjoys sharing the experience with her son Owen.

"It's fun for the whole family," said Bill Angelillo, who came from Kings Park with his wife Alice and children Anthony, Joe, and Peter.

Street chalk art dates back to "I Madonnari," an art form that has roots back in the 16th century, said Pat Snyder, executive director of EEA.
