Photos: Crowds Enjoy Holiday Bonfire On Riverfront

Santa arrived by boat to delight the kids.

Sipping hot cocoa and dancing to holiday music, crowds got into the holiday spirit Saturday at the 13th Annual Bonfire and Holiday Celebration on the Peconic Riverfront in downtown Riverhead.

The event features featured a roaring bonfire, goodies, a gingerbread house where kids had their photos taken, music -- and the highlight of the event, when Santa arrived by boat.

"Did you get my list?" one child yelled excitedly when he spotted St. Nick.

Riverhead Town Councilman Jim Wooten thanked the town board and all the residents who came together to present the beloved holiday tradition. "This truly is a community event," he said.

After Santa's arrival, the Christmas tree was lit and crowds headed to the gingerbread house for photos.
