Riverhead Animal Shelter Seeks Help for Abandoned Dog

The stray dog was found dehydrated and hungry.

The Nork Fork Animal Welfare League, now running the Riverhead Town Animal Shelter, is seeking a home for an abandoned stray pit bull.

"More often than we like this is what our 'donations' look like in Riverhead," the NFAWL Facebook page said on Thursday. "This sweet pit bull came in as a stray today. She is a very thin, recently lactating mom. Her ears are raw with fly strikes."

The dog was found dehydrated and hungry.

"This is what you are supporting when you buy a pit bull puppy. We need your help. Please donate money so we can continue to care for these abandoned babies and most importantly, please adopt. Be part of the solution."

NFAWL staff cleaned her ears and applied soothing balm. "She is way more comfortable, full, hydrated and taking a nap," they wrote Thursday night.
