Riverhead Foundation Rescues Harbor Seal in Mattituck Inlet
The seal was found on Saturday night.
The Riverhead Foundation rescued a male Harbor Seal on Sunday after receiving a call on their hotline Saturday night.
According to Kim Durham, of the foundation, the seal was found on the beach near the Mattituck Inlet.
"The seal was found to be emaciated and transported to the marine mammal hospital at the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center," said Durham.
Durham said the seal was examined Monday morning by veterinarian, Dr. Robert Pisciotta of the Northfork Animal Hospital, who determined that the seal was suffering from a severe mouth infection.
He has been placed on antibiotics, said Durham.
