Riverhead Teen Runner Wins Race to Help Abused Children

The race was organized for a good cause.

A Riverhead teen took home the top honor on Saturday after running in an event to benefit children who have been sexually abused.

Travis Wooten, 17, a Riverhead resident, took first place overall in the inaugural Five Mile Run for the Many, a five-mile race held in Halesite and Huntington Bay on Saturday morning.

Wooten came in first with a finishing time of 29 minutes, 18 seconds. He was the only finisher to break the 30-minute mark in challenging course, with much uphill terrain

The run was organized by the Greater Long Island Running Club for the benefit of the We are Many Foundation, and to the work the Foundation is doing to help, heal and educate society about children who have been sexually victimized, as well as adults who struggle with what they experienced as child victims.
