Romaine and New York Blood Center Host Blood Drive

Due to low supplies, donors will receive Mets baseball tickets after donating blood at the event.

Legislator Ed Romaine, R-Center Moriches, is sponsoring a with New York Blood Services at the in Riverhead on Tuesday.

The drive, which runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., will offer two free New York Mets tickets to those who give blood. 

Blood supplies are often lowest during the summer, due to a lack of donors who are often distracted from regular donations by warm-weather activiites, health officials said.

There are a few restrictions on who can give blood. Donors must be at least 16-years-old and weigh over 110 lbs. Anyone over 75 will also need a doctor's note to donate blood.

While appointments can be made in advance, walk-ins are encouraged, according to a statment from Romaine's office.
