Save Main Road Group Meets Saturday

The Save Main Road group has a full agenda for Saturday's meeting.

The Save Main Road group will meet Saturday to talk over its plans for the season.

The meeting will be held at the Jamesport Meetinghouse on Main Road on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The group has a full agenda: First up, founder Georgette Keller will call for volunteers to help restore the Witch's Hat, located on the Main Road in Aquebogue.

In addition, plans are in place to announce this year's kick-off to Save Main Road's fundraising with an offer from Group for the East End supporting the group with matching funds. Donors will receive Save Main Road stickers for their cars, and a dandelion puller to get rid of weeds without polluting the earth.

Also at the meeting, architect and environmentalist Glynis Berry will be speaking and educating residents about Peconic Green Growth, a local environmental group utilizing a grant to study how changing the way septic systems are used is part of the "integral process of unrolling our groundwater and bays," Keller said.

Group member Angela DeVito will be taking a hiatus from her position as secretary on Save Main Road's executive board because she is running for Riverhead Town supervisor, Keller said.

The group will also discuss a visit by New York State representatives recently to Riverhead in response to Save Main Road's submission in advance of a formal application to become a State and National Register Historic Corridor.

Volunteers are also needed, Keller said, for other committees.

"It's so exciting," Keller said. "So many good things are happening."
