Search Still On For Cocktail

Sadly, the family's other cat, Little Kitty, perished in the flames.

George and Kathy Moretti may have have lost their home in on April 9 and 10, but they are still holding out hope that their beloved cat,

Their other cat, Little Kitty, died in the basement of smoke inhalation.

While still missing, Cocktail has been spotted hiding at the mail boxes near the corner of the street where their home stood on Oakwood Drive.

Volunteers from the Guardian of Rescue organization, a Port Jefferson based not-for-profit, volunteer group that has galvanized to help the Moretti family, were out searching this weekend for Cocktail, who Kathy Moretti was able to get out of the house as she hurried to evacuate.

Cocktail, said Meredith Festa, director of programs and fundraising, is a brown male tabby cat with a white chin; he has a kink at the tip of his tail and knows his name. Although volunteers have been helping out in Manorville and bringing food to lure Cocktail back, he is probably scared and still hungry, she said.

Guardians of Rescue has been helping the Moretti family to locate their missing pets and to pick up the pieces after the fires left them without a home though their "Helping Families" program. The Moretti family lost everything they owned, except some family photos and the pets they managed to save.

The Morettis, who have three inside cats and a German shepherd, and who cared for three feral cats outside, are desperate to find their missing animals.

"We were expecting the evacuation just to be precautionary, and that we'd all be home later that night," Kathy Moretti said. "I'm frantic, because they're like your children. You just want to know they're okay."

Guardian of Rescue volunteers are urging anyone who may have taken in Cocktail or seen him to contact them as soon as possible.
