Snow A No-Show On North Fork
Motorists should watch out for black ice on Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Despite initial predictions of up to three inches of snow expected to fall Tuesday on the East End, for most residents of Riverhead and the North Fork, snow was a no-show.
According to Pete Wichrowski, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Upton, any snowfall on the East End melted quickly or was pretty much a wash.
"Further west, we saw some areas with two to three-inch amounts, but the East End came in at an inch or less," he said.
The area only saw light snow, with minor, if any accumulation, he said.
Residents should be wary Tuesday night, Wichrowski said, as temperatures plummeting into the 20s will cause wet surfaces to freeze.
"We're expecting black ice conditions," he said.
Wednesday is expected to be dry and chilly, with temperatures in the low 30s, Wichrowski said. "We're not expecting any precipitation," he added.
