Snow Games for You and Your Pet

A foot of snow is on the ground and more is on the way. Here are some games to keep your little one happy and healthy this winter

Look out your front door.  You are sure to see over a foot of snow piled up way past your pups' paws. It’s easy to see this snow as fun at first and an annoyance later on, but there’s a good chance your pet loves the snow.  So why not take advantage of it while you can with these fun snow games?

Snowball Fight!

Snowball fights are fun for those of us in our snow boots, but have you ever though of including your four-legged friend? If Fido likes playing catch, he is sure to like a good old-fashioned snowball fight.  Just go out and pack a snowball, just like you normally would, and go for it! If there are two humans and one pup involved, keep away may be the best game to play.  Your dog will be jumping high in the snow trying to get that flying ball of snow all to him. If it’s just you and your canine pal outside, use the snowball just like you would a tennis ball.  Just be prepared to keep making snowballs.  One good bite in your pup’s mouth and that perfectly formed snowball will disintegrate.

Time to go sledding

Sledding isn’t just for humans, but I’m not suggesting you tie your dog to the front of a sled either. Climb on your sled just like usual and take your pup along for the ride!  If you have a small four-legged friend, hold on tight to them (as long as they are comfortable, of course).  If you’re pet is bigger, let him or her sit in front of you on the sled.  Hold on to them and enjoy the ride down the hill together.

It’s A-MAZE-ING!

With all of this snow, you’re sure to be shoveling anyway, so why not make a maze for your four-legged friend? Just take your shovel and dig out a path that zigs and zags across your yard.  Your dog will love running back and forth through the snow piles. The game will give you and your pet a needed break from the indoors, extra exercise and of course, a fun way to enjoy the winter season.
