In celebration of Tanger Outlet's 30th Anniversary, 487 locals helped the chain outlet link together in making the Guinness Book of World Records on Thursday afternoon, as 35 different locations throughout the country banded together to collectively partake in the world's largest dessert party.
With 2,000 desserts - cupcakes, cookies, and brownies - baked by the Suffolk County Community College Culinary School, the Riverhead group alone crushed the standing record of 300. The total official numbers won't be made available until Friday.
Dave Bergen, assistant dean at Suffolk County Community College, said about 15-20 students from a few different culinary classes baked the goods over the past two days for the event.
