The Frugal Family: Valentine's Day Deals

We're all watching our family budgets these days. Whether shopping with coupons or looking for two-for-one deals, we're taking advantage of all sorts of offers and savings that help us stretch our dollars.

This column will be dedicated to giving you five great local deals each week that will help your family’s bottom line, and since we do the scouting for you, you can save time as well as money.

Here are a few we found. This week, with Valentine's Day around the corner, we focused on finding some deals which will hopefully make Cupid's Arrow a little less painful in the pocketbook.

  • Deal: It might seen counter-intuitive to take a yoga class that focuses on yourself as a Valentine's Day gift, but Susyn Reeve wants to show you how that focus can help you open your heart and mind to the love of your life. Fee: $15 (if registered by Feb. 11), or $20 at the door.
  • Good Through: Only Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, 2-4 p.m.

• Deal: Stop by for a Valentine's Day weekend chocolate and wine pairing. Enjoy Martha Clara Brut Rose and three wines with gourmet truffles by J. Emanuel Chocolatier. $12 +tax for each flight.

• Good Through: Valentine's Weekend, February 12 and 13

• 49 East Main Street, Riverhead

  • Deal: Buy a $100 gift certificate, get an extra $40 added to it. Hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons, and hair extensions are 20 percent off, while Coppola Keratin straightening is 30 percent off. 

  • Good Through: The end of February.

•   33 East Main Street, Riverhead

  • Deal: All weekend there will be an open menu with specials, with live jazz on Saturday from 7-11pm...possibly later if the crowd is having fun!

• Homeside Florist; 139 Main Road, Riverhead (Route 25 and Route 105)

  • Deal: What would Valentine's Day be without flowers? An arrangement of red, pink and white flowers, including two red roses in the center, with chocolate hugs and kisses, all arranged in a red glass vase is going for $39.95.   

  • Good Through: February 14th.
