Triathalon to be Held at Wading River Boy Scout Camp in August

The "Deep Pond" Triathlon will hold adult and youth races in mid-August, according to a application approved by the town on Tuesday.

Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River will host a series of triathlons and duathlons in mid-August, according to an applicaion approved by the Town Board on Tuesday.

The "Deep Pond Triathlon," set for the mornings of Aug. 18 and 19, will feature a 750-meter swim across the Deep Pond at the scout camp, a 13-mile bike course from the reservation to the Enterprise Park at Calverton and back, and will end with a 3.1-mile run around the lake.

The race will also include youth triathlons and duathlons, though those don't leave the scout reservation property. Money raised from the entry fees will benefit the Boy Scouts of America. Pricing details are available on the race's website.

Competitive Events Group, which is overseeing the races, has asked the Town of Riverhead to supply police support to ensure the bikers are safe while riding from the reservation through EPCAL. They also requested that one lane of Wading River Manor Road be closed from 6:30 until 9:30 a.m.
