WATCH: Peconic Baykeeper Appeals For Funding To Save The Kathy

Kevin McAllister said the Baykeeper's boat is in need of repair.

The non-profit Peconic Baykeeper organization is $11,000 shy of its goal to raise $25,000 to restore the organization's patrol boat, The Kathy, which is used to patrol Riverhead's waterways.

According to Kevin McAllister, the baykeeper, the 40-year-old boat, which has been owned by his organization for 15 years, is in disrepair and in need of new electric, steering and paint.

So far, the baykeeper has raised $14,000 through an annual appeal and through a fundraiser on GiveZooks.com, called, Save The Kathy. Now, the baykeeper is putting out a call for private donations.

In addition, the baykeeper hopes to raise additional funds through a boat launching event in mid-april.

To donate, visit the Peconic Baykeeper's website here.
