Website: Calverton Oval a Greyhound Track

Bygone Long Island, a site specializing in the region's relics, says mysterious oval was used to race dogs around the 1960s.

that can be seen clearly in aerial images from Mapquest may have been used to race greyhounds around the time of the 1960s, according to Bygone Long Island, a website specializing in the abandoned and off-beat places in the region.

According to a post on the site, local horse riders familiar with the area told Bygone Long Island about the history, though so far the claim has been very hard to confirm.

The post has several pictures of structures adjoining the track, which they believe were wooden grandstands and kennels. Patch plans to head down their with our own cameras soon.
