Here's a round-up of the 5 best things to do around town this weekend.

Memorial Day weekend is a time not only for firing up the grill and hosting family gatherings -- it's a moment to remember the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.

Here's a list of 5 fun and patriotic things to do to celebrate Memorial Day this holiday weekend.

1. Attend a Memorial Day service at Calverton National Cemetery. Join New York State Congressman Tim Bishop, veterans, Scouts and a host of other dignitaries to commemorate the holiday with bands, flags, and remembrance. This year's keynote speaker is CSM Sylvia P. Laughlin of Fort Hamilton, located in Brooklyn. The ceremony begins at 1 p.m.

2. Wave a flag at a parade. A Memorial Day parade organized by the Combined Veterans Committee, Riverhead Unit, including American Legion Post 273, Veterans of Foreign Wars, VanRensselaer Skidmore Post #2476, and Garfield M. Langhorne DAV Post #183, will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday behind the Pulaski Street School, and wind through Riverhead with a stop at the Riverhead Cemetery for services and to Pulaski Street, where the parade will conclude at the World War II Monument with services, speakers, and volley fire by a firing squad and taps.

3. Paint on the sidewalk with the kids. takes place in downtown Riverhead on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The event will include entertainment, painting, theater, music and a host of kid-friendly activities.

4. Go to a carnival. The takes place Friday night at 6 p.m. on East Main Street with rides, games, international foods, and fun for all.

5. Sing and sip. A event takes place at Jason's Vineyard in Jamesport, Friday night beginning at 6:30 p.m.
